Femtocell

Salam.

In this post I wanna talk about femtocell technology. This technology is going to take the wold’s attention, because on 2012 it’s predicted have 102 million users and 32 million access point worldwide. Wow!!

on the picture above, we can see the femtocell network configuration (filched from femtoforum.org). So, what is femtocell? If your answer is “it’s just another access for your home environment”, yup you’re correct!

this is femtoforum’s answer:

Femtocells are low-power wireless access points that operate in licensed spectrum to connect standard mobile devices to a mobile operator’s network using residential DSL or cable broadband connections.

But why another access device for the home?

In reality, we like to use our mobile phone better than our fixed phone (PSTN) though we are in home. It’s because with mobile phone, we can make a call anywhere from all the home’s corner, and also we don’t have to remember the number that we want to dial because it’s stored on the phone’s memory.

Internet connectivity now is going to burst, we can see the market growth is significant over this 5 past years. Femtocell can handle internet connectivity with 3G technology in home environment.

So femtocell isn’t just about voice. It’s triple play: voice, data, and multimedia. From 3g4g.blogspot.com I’ve gathered some information about it:

As you can see on the picture above, “Zone Gate Access Point” provide the interface for Mobile core, LAN, Internet and Femtocell it self. This is very interesting especially for my company which has huge Line for DSL connection. This kind of technology maybe will gain more revenue for it.

I have an idea on it, and I hope this idea can be delivered to my Boss and management and approved.
